THERE was festive joy and happy tears as pupils from a Lichfield special school and youngsters from a local youth club collaborated to sing Christmas songs for shoppers.
Students from Queen’s Croft High School, in Lichfield, joined children from the Liberty youth club to perform as the ‘Sign and Shine’ choir outside the town’s Tesco supermarket.
And so impressed were staff and shoppers at Tesco – with many reduced to tears – that they have been invited back for an encore.
Sam Wood, co-headteacher at Queen’s Croft High School, said: “The choir were pitch perfect and it was a very moving and heart-warming performance by the choir.
“There were many shoppers who were in tears, and Tesco were generous in supporting our performance, so we’d like to say a huge thank you to them.”
The event raised over £300, which will go towards sensory toys and fidgets for pupils at Queen’s Croft High School.
The school, which has more than 200 pupils on roll and covers Lichfield, Rugeley, Tamworth, Cannock, Stafford, Walsall and Birmingham, will be creating class sensory boxes in the new year to help regulate pupils.
They are seeking donations of sensory toys, as well as jigsaws under 100 pieces, to use as organisational, calming activities and welcome any contributions.
