Pupils at Derby Grammar Primary School in Littleover have spent national ‘Roald Dahl Day’ celebrating one of the world’s most celebrated writers of children’s books.
Children from Reception to Year 6 came together for a special reading lesson in their school Houses, with each teacher sharing an extract from their favourite Roald Dahl book.
From George’s Marvellous Medicine and Matilda to The Twits and Boy, children were treated to a morning of zany characters and fanciful made-up worlds.
Kayte Genders, Academic Lead at Derby Grammar School, said: “Introducing children to books is one of the most rewarding things we, as parents and teachers, can do. Reading is the basis on which literacy skills are developed and at Derby Grammar School, reading is at the centre of our curriculum.
“Roald Dahl’s work has captivated children’s minds for generations and being a firm favourite of pupils and adults alike, we have all had a fantastic day!”
The culmination of international Roald Dahl Day on September 13 at Derby Grammar School was a pupil vote on their favourite book extract and George’s Marvellous Medicine was the winner!
Derby Grammar School will share more about their teaching and learning at their Open Morning on Saturday, September 30, 10am – 1.30pm.
