Divine Box: Derbyshire entrepreneur receives more than 12,500 toilet bomb orders for Christmas

15/12/2020

A Derbyshire entrepreneur is feeling flushed with success after handling pre-Christmas orders for more than 12,500 fizzy bombs – for the toilet.

Danielle Dunn runs toiletries firm Divine Box from her Swadlincote home and makes a range of luxurious handmade bath bombs, soaps, showergels and shampoos with a team of eight staff.

But her best-selling line of 2020 has given the 33-year-old’s bottom line a boost after she received orders for 12,732 toilet bombs in the last month alone.

And, since starting out in business in March, Danielle estimates she has sold an incredible 115,000 toilet bombs – she even took on an extra member of staff to keep up with demand.

The fragrant bombs are prepared with natural disinfectants and stain-breaking materials which absorb smells and avoid the serious chemicals that are dangerous to humans and the environment.

Danielle said: “We have some amazing products, from really pretty bubble baths through to novelty bath bombs, but we didn’t expect toilet bombs to be so incredibly popular. They were only really intended to be a side-line.

“But in fact, we have people who order them regularly and they have been purchased by people from all over the country; we’ve even had enquiries from abroad.

“I think people are becoming much more aware of the environment and are conscious that whatever they put down the toilet needs to be as eco-friendly as possible.

“Cleaning the loo is never a fun job, but with a toilet bomb you just throw it into the bowl and leave it to work it’s magic.”

The toilet bombs are made from a mixture of essential oils, citric acid and bicarbonate of soda which make them fizz and foam as they dissolve.

Danielle uses three different essential oils; grapefruit, lemon and lavender which all have different properties.

She added: “The essential oils are amazing. Lavender for example is well-known for its versatility and is one of the most popular ingredients used in aromatherapy.

“It’s not only antifungal, antibacterial and antimicrobial but also offers analgesic, relaxing and sedative effects – which can be quite useful when you sit on the loo!

“We have definitely had a last-minute rush on orders in December; I just hope they are for people stocking up on cleaning aids and not as Christmas gifts!”

Divine Box toilet bombs are sold in packs of 12 which cos £5. Find out more by visiting www.divinebox.co.uk
