Divine Box: Derbyshire bath bomb business booms during Coronavirus pandemic

17/11/2020

A woman who launched her own handmade bath bomb company during the peak of the pandemic has take on seven members of staff to help her keep up with the demand for 2,000 products a day.

Danielle Dunn left her fulltime job in March and moved into a workshop just five days before the UK’s first lockdown – forcing her to move her business, Divine Box, back into her Swadlincote home.

Although the 33-year-old feared her company might fail before it had even begun, she has been overwhelmed with orders – including one for 22,000 bath bombs.

Now Danielle has expanded her range to include products such as soaps, shower gel and shampoo and has employed six members of staff, while partner John Hough has also joined the company making bespoke moulds for her designs.

Lockdown has seen Danielle Dunn create as many as 2,000 Divine Box orders a day.

The couple have now converted their garage into a workshop and Danielle has a team of 200 reps selling Divine Box products all over the UK, with online enquiries coming in from customers in America and Australia.

Danielle, who was a trainer in the care industry before starting Divine Box, said: “When lockdown was announced I panicked, just like the rest of the world. I had no idea what would happen to the business, especially since I wouldn’t get any financial help from the Government.

“I wasn’t going to give up though and moved everything back home. We could get in the kitchen to cook, but otherwise the whole house was taken over. I literally had products, boxes and paperwork in every single room.

Danielle came up with the idea for Divine Box after years of making bath bombs for herself and perfecting her own recipe to ensure her products fizz and foam.

All Divine Box bath bombs have been safety assessed and because the products are made with the kindest of ingredients even customers with skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis have been able to use them.

Danielle added: “I have always worked in the care industry and now Divine Box is all about self-care which has never been more important. We gave free soap to the local vulnerable residents of Swadlincote when soap was not readily available in shops due to panic buying.

“We have offered NHS discount and had so much feedback thanking us for helping key workers to relax during the pandemic.

“I hope my story inspires others to never give up and sheds a bit of positivity during this terrible year. Everyone should follow their dreams because if I can do it, anybody can.”
