Rotherham pupils get crafty as they give eggs an artistic Easter makeover

16/04/2019

An egg guarded by a scary snake, another disguised as popstar Ed Sheeran and a clutch of eggs acting out World War Three proved to be the stars of the show when a Rotherham school held an Easter egg decorating competition.

Pupils at Listerdale Junior Academy dreamed up a whole host of creative ways to present their eggs after the school, in Beech Avenue, threw down the gauntlet to find the most imaginative ways to give eggs an Easter makeover.

Prizes of chocolate eggs were on offer for the best designs and among the first to be judged worthy of a goodie was Bethany Winterbottom, 10, who created a snake protecting its prized silver egg.

Lucia Bisby, four, meanwhile, took her inspiration from the world of music, staging an Egg Sheeran concert, while nine-year-old Max Hepworth imagined what would happen if egg world war broke out.

The school holds either an Easter bonnet parade or an Easter egg competition every year and head teacher David Simpson said that pupils surpassed themselves this time round with their creativity.

He said: “We’re always surprised and delighted by the many different themes and designs that our pupils come up with and this year is no exception.

“The creativity on show made judging the competition extremely difficult but the winners thoroughly deserve their prizes for demonstrating how imaginative you can be while decorating an egg for Easter.”
