Derby Cathedral School has celebrated its best ever GCSE results today.
The secondary on Great Northern Road, part of Derby Diocesan Academy Trust, saw 176 year 11 students arrive promptly this morning to receive what are the school’s strongest ever results at GCSE level.
Top performers included Emilia Fox, who achieved all 9 and 8 grades, with 9s for Music, Spanish and Religious Studies and 8s in her remaining subjects, having already been awarded a 9 for French last year.

Emilia is going on to take A-levels in Biology, Chemistry and French and hopes to study medicine in the future.
“I’m happy with them!” she said about her grades, saying her year group at the school had worked well together during their GCSE exams. “I got a lot of support from friends and teachers,” she added.
Another strong student was George Fleming who achieved 9s in Maths and Chemistry and is going to study Maths, Chemistry and Geography at Derby Cathedral School sixth form.
“I’m proud that the work paid off,” he said. “The teachers have been helpful and I’ve been supported to achieve my best.”
Derby Cathedral School head teacher Andrew Brown said: “I’m absolutely delighted with today’s GCSE results at Derby Cathedral School. We are celebrating our best ever set of results by every headline measure.
“We are so proud of our students and our staff – and everyone in the Derby Cathedral School family – who have applied our principles of rigour and joy to achieve these great GCSEs.”
Dr Sarah Clark, CEO of Derby Diocesan Academy Trust, said: “Everyone at Derby Diocesan Academy Trust is very proud of the GCSE results we are seeing at Derby Cathedral School today. Students have really done their teachers proud and it’s great to see their hard work pay off. These are our strongest ever GCSE results and we’re very pleased indeed.”
