Derby personalised gifting company, Colleague Box, has teamed up with the surplus food app, Too Good To Go, to prevent its range of food and drink gift items from going to waste.
Launched last year by husband and wife team, Adam and Natalie Bamford, Colleague Box has quickly proven to be a huge success and is now already approaching its 100,000th box sold. Initially designed as a way for employees to keep in touch with their furloughed or remote-working employees – but now with more than 40 celebration boxes available – Colleague Box delivers beautiful packaged food and drink gifts. The partnership with Too Good To Go means that any unsold produce from its commercial site in Derby can now be rescued by local consumers through the app.
Too Good To Go lets people buy surplus food from restaurants, retailers and producers to stop it from going to waste. They simply download the free Too Good To Go app and search for nearby businesses with unsold food. App users then purchase a ‘Magic Bag’, collect it at an allotted time and enjoy it.

Colleague Box Magic Bags are priced at £5 and feature confectionery, sweet and savoury snacks worth at least £15. There are also alcohol Magic Bags available for £7, which include hand crafted cocktails and dented craft beers up to a value of at least £20.
Colleague Box is already proving popular with local users of Too Good To Go, with 176 Magic Bags having been sold in its first week available on the app. By saving 176 meals, users have saved 440kg of CO2e from going to waste. That’s the same amount of energy used to run a hot shower for 23.4 hours straight, or to power 7,880 smartphone charges.
Adam Bamford of Colleague Box said: “We’re very keen to do our bit in the fight against food waste and we want to help protect the planet for our children, Lola and Poppy, and future generations.
“Too much food is thrown away by households and also supermarkets, cafes and businesses around the world. We think that Too Good To Go is a fantastic idea; users get a bargain and less food goes to landfill, so everyone benefits.
“As well as donating surplus stock via the Too Good to Go app, we will continue to make food donations to local charities such as Derby City Mission, Doorways, Safe and Sound and Macmillan..”
Paschalis Loucaides, UK Country Manager at Too Good To Go said: “We’re delighted to have welcomed Colleague Box into our growing community of over 11,000 partner stores. Our collaboration will mean that these delicious food and drink items will be eaten rather than wasted, and I know our app users are going to love their rescued treats. It’s fantastic to see how popular this partnership has already been with our users, and I’m looking forward to seeing the continued impact we can make together.”

ABOUT TOO GOOD TO GO
Too Good To Go has a simple mission: to make sure all food gets eaten, not wasted.
In 2016, a group of entrepreneurs witnessed restaurant staff throwing away fresh food. The food’s only problem? It hadn’t sold in time, and no one was around to take it off the restaurant’s hands. The group pioneered a seamless solution: an app that lists businesses’ unsold food so local diners can find, buy and enjoy it.
Now, thousands of Magic Bags are rescued from businesses such as supermarkets, restaurants, and bakeries every day. The success of the app powers Too Good To Go’s wider efforts to drive a food waste movement, working with schools, industries and governments to build a planet-friendly food system.
