Former Derbyshire Country Cricketer joins award-winning IT firm Axess Systems as business demand soars during pandemic

07/04/2021

A FORMER professional cricketer has swapped his bat and ball for IT solutions after joining award-winning Derbyshire business, Axess Systems.

Greg Cork spent four years playing professionally for Derbyshire County Cricket Club, where his Dad, former England international Dominic Cork, has just been appointed T20 coach.

Now Greg is advising businesses and organisations – including NHS Trusts, finance companies and investment banks – on cloud systems, which have become big business since the coronavirus pandemic forced everyone to change the way in which they work.

“IT managers around the world have learned so much over the past 12 months,” said Greg, who will be based at Axess Systems’ headquarters on the Denby Hall Business Centre, near Ripley.

“The pandemic has sped up the need for businesses and organisations, both private and public sector, to move their storage from on-premises to the cloud or hybrid. We have had lots of enquiries and worked with IT managers in finance, health care and education, who have all had massive changes to the way in which they work.

“I think that health care and the education sector are perhaps the two biggest areas which have seen this change. Their organisations changed the way in which they work overnight – many schools, colleges and universities went from have very few to 300-400 youngsters learning online in just 24 hours.

“We are experts in Citrix; a digital workspace technology which allows staff to work from anywhere, on any device and any network, and these organisations are finding out just how it can help transform their business.”

Greg isn’t the only new recruit to join Axess Systems in 2021. Ian Dickerson was appointed as a senior network engineer in January – but the two new kids on the block are yet to meet in person.

“It has been a slightly strange start to my career with Axess Systems,” said Greg, who spent eight months in Australia after leaving Derbyshire before returning to begin a career in recruitment.

“Perhaps one of the benefits of the coronavirus pandemic has been the new era of flexible working – but I’m looking forward to being in the office on a more regular basis with my new colleagues.”

Founded 20 years ago, Axess Systems employs more than 20 people at its head office in Denby and its regional office in Southampton.

Axess Systems is the leading Citrix specialist in the UK and holds the coveted Gold Citrix Solution Advisor level. Citrix is a technology used by NHS Trusts, investment banks and housing trusts which allows remote and flexible working and is an official partner of Red Bull Racing.
