Swinton Academy pupils get in the festive spirit on national Christmas Jumper Day

20/12/2019

PUPILS at a Rotherham school swapped their blazers for something a little more festive – and raised money for two very worthy causes, too.

Swinton Academy marked the national ‘Christmas Jumper Day’ by sporting brightly-coloured festive attire and donning fancy head wear – including reindeer antlers and Santa hats. Each pupil donated £1 with all proceeds going to Save the Children and towards the Academy’s Student Council, who are planning to improve facilities at Swinton.

Principal Rebecca Hibberd said: “Christmas Jumper Day is a chance for everyone at Swinton Academy to support two worthy causes and for staff and pupils to celebrate the start of the festive season together.

“We are really getting into the spirit here at Swinton Academy with festivities in full swing. The school celebrated its talented students with a wonderful performance for the community earlier this week and, just before we break up for the holidays, staff and pupils will join South Yorkshire Police in delivering home-made Christmas hampers to those in need.”

Last month, Swinton showed its caring side by splitting funds raised for BBC Children in Need between the national charity and Kilnhurst Primary School, which was badly damaged following the winter floods in South Yorkshire.

The school has also held fundraising events for charities Stand Up To Cancer and Macmillan.
