Welcome to the Year of the Fire Horse – families across Derby came together to celebrate the Lunar New Year at a popular all-you-can-eat restaurant, with the local MP joining the evening’s festivities.
The event took place at COSMO on London Road, which has been bringing international flavours to the city since 2013. The restaurant was transformed with traditional decorations and celebratory activities to welcome the Year of the Fire Horse.
Baggy Shanker, MP for Derby South, was on hand to help diners enjoy the occasion which included an authentic lion dance performance.
Chefs made Nian Gao treats for customers – a Chinese New Year sticky rice cake symbolising the need for a “better year ahead”.
Baggy Shanker MP said: “It was a pleasure to be part of the Lunar New Year celebrations at COSMO. A busy restaurant full of families enjoying themselves is exactly what we want to see in Derby. Businesses that choose to grow here and employ local people play a key role in our city’s success.”
In addition to the New Year festivities, the restaurant recently hosted a successful Valentine’s Day event with hearts and flowers décor that echoed the restaurant’s ethos: “Love All, Serve All.”
With Mothering Sunday approaching, preparations are underway for another busy day, as the restaurant looks forward to welcoming families for a carefully curated celebration – with early bookings recommended.

The celebration follows COSMO’s recent recognition as Best Buffet Restaurant of the Year at the prestigious English Food Awards. The awards celebrate excellence in UK dining, recognising restaurants that deliver outstanding food, service and memorable experiences, reflecting COSMO’s growing reputation as a popular family-friendly dining destination in the city.
