The mission is simple: to promote a love of reading for pleasure and offering every child in the UK and Ireland the chance to have a book of their own.
World Book Day – a charity that operates in the UK and Ireland – was created by UNESCO on April 23rd 1995 as a worldwide celebration of books and reading. World Book Day is marked in over 100 countries around the globe, with the first World Book Day in the UK and Ireland taking place in 1997.
Schools use the occasion to not only celebrate a love of books, but to dress up as their favourite characters. Our Penguin PR team have been out and about at schools across Derby and Derbyshire taking pictures from the likes of The Bemrose School, Allestree Woodlands, Lees Brook Academy and Murray Park in Derby, Whittington Green School in Chesterfield and Stanton Vale School in Long Eaton.
