Derbyshire science company Lubrizol has helped put the sparkle into Christmas for people with learning difficulties by paying for a slap-up festive do.
Through its charities and communities committee, Lubrizol gave a generous donation so that staff at Belper Mencap – who support people living with learning difficulties – could enjoy a Christmas party complete with DJ and food.
JP Deacon who organised the party with Debbie Smith on behalf of Belper Mencap, said without Lubrizol’s support it would not have been able to take place.
He said: “Lubrizol was incredibly generous and doubled its support from last year. Without them, we would not have been able to put this party on, so I’m just so grateful. Some of the people we support struggle to get out so it’s very important to us that we put on a really festive party for them at Christmas time. From the smiles on faces, I think we did a great job. We feel very emotional to have been supported by Lubrizol and we really can’t thank them enough.”
This is the second year running that science company Lubrizol has donated to the Belper Mencap party, which is also supported by local businesses who donate raffle prizes. The science company is based at Hazelwood near Duffield and gives thousands of pounds to local good causes each year.
Claire Hollingshurst, from Lubrizol’s charities and communities committee, said: “We supported the Belper Mencap Christmas party in 2022 and when I went along I was blown away by what they were able to provide for all the people they support. It was brilliant to see people supported by Mencap have such a great time, so we were delighted to be able to offer a donation again this year to help make it happen. Hats off to Belper Mencap for helping make such impact through organising this Christmas party. It’s great to see.”
Belper Mencap is part of the Royal Mencap Society charity and it supports adults in the area with learning difficulties who either live on their own or in shared accommodation.
