The Inn-spectors have been in town at a Derbyshire school for the story of Christmas

14/12/2023

The Inn-spectors put Bethlehem through rigorous testing to make sure it was up to scratch as pupils told the Christmas story from a unique viewpoint.

Children at William Gilbert Endowed Church of England Primary School and Nursery, in Vicarage Lane, Duffield, told their own inspiring version of the Nativity in a play entitled ‘The Inn-spectors’.

The play tells the tale of six hotel inspectors in Bethlehem who visit all the inns to see if they are up to standard – carrying out a thorough inspection while they are there.

One innkeeper had the challenge of convincing the inn-spectors that their stable was fit for a King. The majority of the play was performed by pupils in Year 2 supported by Reception and Year 1 pupils who took to the stage to sing and perform a range of dance routines.

Head teacher Helen Britten said: “The infant nativity is a very special event in our school calendar and reflects our ethos and vision as a Church of England school.

“We see how this special production helps our youngest children to flourish and grow in confidence as they perform for their parents, carers and the whole school community.”
