Former Happy Mondays frontman turned national treasure Shaun Ryder is set to appear in Derby to give a warts and all talk about his life in the rock ‘n’ roll spotlight.
The Manchester-born singer, who later found fame by starring in ITV’s I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here, will take to the stage at Annie’s Burger Shack, in Friary Street, when he hits the road for a national spoken word tour next year.
The event, which will take place on November 21, 2024, will feature his stories from his time at the forefront of the late 80s Madchester indie music scene as lead singer of the Happy Mondays, before going on to form and front Black Grape.
In recent years he has become a popular face on the TV, with appearances on I’m A Celebrity and Channel Four’s Gogglebox, cementing his place as a cultural icon.
His tour has been arranged to coincide with the publication of his new book, Happy Mondays – and Fridays and Saturday and Sundays, which is described by its publishers as a “carnival of excess, wild tales and improbable truths”.
Tickets for the show have gone on sale costing £30 for unreserved seats and £50 for a VIP package which includes a pre-show meet and greet with Shaun, a goodie bag and reserved seats in the front row.
Doors open at 6.30pm, meaning there will also be an opportunity to enjoy Annie’s famous burgers before the show starts at 8pm.
Shaun Ryder is the latest well-known celebrity to announce they are appearing at Annie’s, which is hosting two upcoming shows from comedians Milton Jones and Joe Pasquale and also welcomed former Fun Lovin’ Criminals frontman Huey Morgan, who performed a DJ set this summer.
Annie Spaziano, owner of Annie’s Burger Shack, said: “Shaun Ryder and the Manchester music scene changed my life, because I visited the Hacienda the night before I was due to fly home to the States after living here in the early 90s and I enjoyed it so much I decided I just had to come back!
“We’re delighted to have booked him to appear here and we’re really proud to be able to offer Derby another event to bring people into the city centre.
“At the same time we are still very much a restaurant at heart and I am sure that we will be looking at creating a special burger to celebrate Shaun’s visit next year.”
