A Derby restaurant is making the final preparations to host its biggest-ever gig – complete with creating a specially themed burger to mark the occasion.
Annie’s Burger Shack says there are just a few tickets left for an appearance of iconic Welsh comedy hip-hop group Goldie Lookin Chain, who will take the stage at the restaurant, in Friary Street, on Thursday.
Annie’s has hosted a number of music gigs down the years, but the group are the biggest act to have appeared at the restaurant, ahead of their appearance at Camp Bestival in Dorset next month and a support slot for Noel Gallagher’s High-Flying Birds at Caldicott Castle, Chepstow in August.
The group are also appearing at the Back 2 Festival at Catton Park this weekend, entertaining crowds with much-loved hits such as Guns Don’t Kill People Rappers Do and You Knows I Love You.
But in the mean time they have a date at Annie’s, where restaurant founder Annie Spaziano has created a one-off one-night-only Goldie Lookin Chain burger, featuring a patty available in vegan, veggie or meaty, topped with a number of ingredients including Welsh rarebit, two Welsh cakes, GLC’s grilled chicken tikka pieces, all topped with an old-school McVities Gold bar.
She said: “We’re all hugely excited about Goldie Lookin Chain’s appearance on Thursday. They’re the biggest music act we’ve had by far and we’re really pleased to be bringing them to Derby, which is why we decided to create a one-off Goldie Lookin Chain burger paying homage to their Welsh roots and ‘old skool’ appeal specially for the occasion.
“Work has started on the city’s new entertainment centre just close by to where we are and that will make a huge difference to this part of the city. In the meantime, we’ve been busy putting together a line-up of events to bring people to Annie’s and there is plenty more to come.”
Among the highlights of Annie’s Burger Shack’s forthcoming events is Fun Lovin’ Criminals frontman Huey Morgan’s NYC Block Party on July 14 and the arrival of the Just The Tonic Comedy Club on July 29.
