22/02/2023

TEACHERS, reception and grounds staff at a Derby school have been sharing their idea of a ‘dream jobs’ to mark National Apprenticeship Week.

Executive headteacher Neil Wilkinson revealed aspirations of working in aviation, while receptionist Justine Merett shared hopes of an apprenticeship in pathology.

The Uttoxeter Road school also welcomed members of YMCA Derbyshire, who shared their ambitions, too.

Community Relationship Co-ordinator Paul Taylor said that he would like to work as a mechanic, whilst Matthew Taylor – Youth and Community Manager at the YMCA Derbyshire, said that he would choose an apprenticeship in plumbing.

Claire Amos, careers lead at The Bemrose School, said: “It was great to hear of what jobs our staff would like to do, if they were to undertake an apprenticeship.

“National Apprenticeship Week is a good opportunity to celebrate the achievements of apprentices around the country, and to share the many benefits that come with being an apprentice with our students.”

As well as marking National Apprenticeship Week, The Bemrose School also held an enterprise day for Year 8 pupils where they welcomed employees currently working the HS2 project, and learned about how robotics are used in local industries such as Toyota with a hands-on workshop run by education experts Learn By Design.
