Popular Derby restaurant Annie’ Burger Shack is hoping to attract children and families into the city centre during the half term next week with its biggest-ever line-up of holiday events.
The venue, in Friary Street, will combine dining with half time fun by laying on three days’ worth of soft play, an appearance by children’s music group Johnny and the Raindrops, a magician called Alex Cadabra and a lunchtime visit from Batman and Frozen’s Elsa, with something happening every day.
Annie’s has held one-off children’s specials in the past, including visits from Santa Claus and Derby County mascot Rammie, but is pulling out the stops to put on more activities as part of an overall plan to host more events at its Derby restaurant.
Kids’ entertainment at Derby’s Annie’s Burger Shack as the restaurant launches its biggest-ever programme of half term events.
Other forthcoming events include its first-ever record fair, which takes place in conjunction with AA Records during the day on February 26, an appearance from a US college band Weezer tribute act and Drag Bingo on March 24 – which has already sold out.
The events have all been organised by Will Bailey, who is Annie’s Burger Shack’s newly appointed events promotions and events manager and has been given the responsibility for introducing Annie’s to a whole new audience and finding new uses for its Derby venue, which is a Grade II-listed former church and has a capacity of 290 when the tables are removed and replaced with chairs.
He is also holding more events at its Nottingham restaurant and is one of the organisers of the hugely successful Notts Bad Film Club, which is a bi-monthly celebration of films that are so bad they’re good and whose next event – which is also sold out – will feature a double bill of cheesy sci-fi classics Flash Gordon and Masters of the Universe.
Will said: “Although Annie’s will always primarily be a casual dining restaurant serving Annie’s famous American-style gourmet burgers, there is a huge demand from customers for events which turn a dining experience into an all-round entertainment experience.
“In particular, our Rammie and Christmas family events were incredibly successful, which is why we wanted to use our wonderful building to host more family-friendly events to give parents somewhere different to bring their kids during half term, while they can sit back and have some food and a beer.
“It’s really exciting to be able to organise diverse events that will encourage people who have maybe never visited us, or who haven’t been to see us in a while, to enjoy a side of Annie’s that is unexpected and isn’t available anywhere else.”
Founded by American-born Annie Spaziano in 2009, Annie’s Burger Shack has become a firm favourite with diners in both Nottingham and Derby thanks to its huge array of New England-inspired burgers, which are all available in vegan, veggie and meaty.
The first half term event is the show from Johnny and the Raindrops, which takes place on Sunday, followed by the soft play – which features a bouncy castle – on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Lunch with Else and Batman on Thursday and Alex Cadabra on Friday.
