Andrew Gentles, Managing Director of Amgent Ltd, has been appointed Chair of Derby Grammar School’s Board of Governors.
He succeeds Sarah Flear who steps down after completing her pre-determined three-year term as Chair. A business graduate and alumnus of Burton Grammar School, Andrew offers a breadth of commercial and operational experience across a range of business sectors, including leisure, hospitality and events. Previously the Managing Director of J D Parties, Burton Inns Group and Webb Ivory, Andrew has been an active and long-standing member of the region’s business community.
Andrew has served on the Derby Grammar School Board of Governors as a Parent Governor for five years and has also served as president of the Burton Chamber of Commerce and as Board member of South Staffordshire and Birmingham Chambers. Speaking on his appointment as Chair, Andrew commented: “I am delighted to have been appointed Chair. Derby Grammar’s focus on excellence and its strong community links are its strengths and I hope to help continue progress in these areas.”
Paul Logan, Head of Derby Grammar, offered his congratulations to Andrew and said: “I and the Senior Leadership Team are very much looking forward to working with Andrew Gentles who will bring his considerable business expertise and acumen to bear in guiding the School to even greater success in the future.”
He went on to thank Sarah Flear for her contribution to Derby Grammar School, not least driving the purchase of Derby Grammar Sports Centre: “She will be sorely missed but will continue to support the School with her extensive financial knowledge as she remains co-opted to the Board of Governors.”
Derby Grammar School will now seek to add an additional Board member to enhance the already impressive gamut of expertise the Board has to offer.
