Best friends who supported each other during lockdown on their special bond – and how Derbyshire business played an important part in helping them stay in touch

22/04/2022

A WOMAN who worked as a keyworker when the coronavirus pandemic was at its peak has thanked her best friend for supporting her, as she prepares to wed her fiancé this summer.

Thirty-year-old Nicolle Davis will marry Craig Brown this summer at the Torrance Hotel, East Kilbride with best friend Claire Hamilton by her side as her Maid of Honour.

And Nicolle, who met Claire when the pair were studying nursery care at college six years ago, has told how important her best friend is to her – and how they found unique ways to stay in touch when the UK was locked down.

Nicolle said: “Claire means the absolute world to me and I can’t wait to have her as my Maid of Honour. Our wedding should have taken place last year, but we decided to postpone it until this summer when we could celebrate with more of our nearest and dearest.

“Claire and I haven’t known each other as long as some best friends have but we have a special bond that makes us feel more like sisters.

“We are both keyworkers; Claire works in a nursery, and I work for Marks & Spencer. My husband is a stair lift engineer and so we were all working during covid. We see each other at least once a week and so it was difficult not to do this during lockdown.

“When the rules eased slightly, we would meet up at a distance and, to show her how much she means to me, I would send her gifts; tokens of appreciation to let her know I was thinking of her.

“Claire has been with me through so much. She was there when I had to quit college because of difficult circumstances at home – my partner and I were trying for a baby and were moving home – and I wanted her to know how special she is to me.”

Nicolle and Craig will wed on June 5 – just before National Best Friends Day (June 8).

Nicolle said: “One of my favourite gifts I purchased for Claire was a bracelet from personalised gift company Letterbox Love. It was from their Friendship Bracelet collection and is wrapped around a card with a poem handwritten by owner Kerry Bilson and wrapped in recyclable tissue paper.

“I liked it because it’s nice and simple and I fell in love with the poem. It sums up my relationship with Claire. The service I received, too, from Letterbox Love was brilliant and it’s so nice to be able to support a small business who are doing well.”

Letterbox Love celebrates its second birthday this month and was set up by husband-and-wife Liam and Kerry, who quit their jobs as a construction project manager and recruitment to concentrate on the business.

They have become one of the biggest sellers on gift website Etsy – which is where Nicolle spotted their products – and they have recently collaborated with Find Me A Gift.com, who have given Letterbox Love a spa day to giveaway to customers on their popular Instagram page.

Kerry said: “Wedding season is fast approaching and, as well as 15 new products being launched, we’re really busy with orders for our bridesmaid proposal boxes and bracelet just for the Mother of the Groom.

“We love to hear of heart-warming stories like the tale of friendship between Nicolle and Claire and wish Nicolle and Craig all the best for their forthcoming wedding.”

Letterbox Love offer free UK shipping and gift wrapping, plus 15% off when you purchase two or more items.  To find out more, visit www. letterbox-love.co.uk or connect on Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook.
