The Bemrose School, in Derby, has been recognised for its outstanding careers work, supporting pupils from reception to sixth form to think about their lives after school.
The school in Uttoxeter New Road has been awarded the national Quality in Careers Standard from Ixion.
Achieving the national Quality in Careers Standard shows the head teacher, governors and leadership team at Bemrose embrace, promote and endorse quality careers education and recognise the part it plays in the overall success of the school and its students.
The quality standard is further recognition of the importance The Bemrose School places on careers, having already been named School of the Year at the Enterprise 4 Education (E4E) Derby City Raising Aspiration Awards, which celebrated the success and achievements of schools, employers and individuals in the local Derby area.
Claire Pavitt, the Careers Lead at Bemrose, said: “We are very proud of achieving this Quality Standard Award and I personally take pride in leading Careers at Bemrose to ensure that students from Year 1 to Year 13 receive careers opportunities throughout their education.
“For me, Careers Education is as equally important as any other subject, allowing students to develop their skills for a happy working and personal life.”
The Bemrose School is the only all-through school in the city and begins preparing its pupils for the world of work from its nursery and primary school, throughout secondary and into its sixth form.
Their Careers Education Programme includes bespoke work experience, mock interviews, enterprise days, inspirational speakers, career talks, college, apprenticeship and university visits.
It also works in connection with Toyota Manufacturing UK as a partner school, which opens up even more valuable experiences for its young people.
The Bemrose School’s executive headteacher Neil Wilkinson said: “We are thrilled to have achieved this award.
“At Bemrose we recognise the important role school plays in helping students develop their knowledge, skills and experience so they can go out into the world and achieve personal success.
“This standard has provided a flexible framework that enabled us to audit our work on careers and ensure our students are receiving advice, practical support and experience so they are prepared for the next stage of their education, employment, self-employment or training.”
