Derby County fans invited to back the “other” Rams as Annie’s Burger Shack hosts Superbowl all-nighter

09/02/2022

Derby County fans are being invited to cheer sport’s other famous Rams to victory when a city restaurant hosts its popular all-night Superbowl celebration this weekend.

On Sunday (February 13) Annie’s Burger Shack, in Friary Street, will screen the biggest showdown in the American sporting calendar, which this year will see the Los Angeles Rams take on the Cincinnati Bengals at the Rams’ SoFi Stadium.

The match kicks off at 3.30pm in California, meaning that the action starts at 11.30pm UK time and lasts until 3am on Monday, with customers welcome to stay through the night until the very last throw.

Annie’s restaurant in Nottingham will also be screening the game, with its American-born owner/operator Annie Spaziano travelling between the two venues to spend time with customers while the game is underway.

It is the sixth time that Annie has hosted a Superbowl evening but, with last year’s events unable to go ahead because of COVID, she is determined to make the most of its return.

She is also looking forward to being reunited with the city’s own American Football fans, many of whom arrive dressed in the shirt of their favourite gridiron team, whether they’re in the final or not.

And she will be serving a hot dog stromboli, which is the SoFi stadium’s speciality, as part of a half-time platter.

She said: “The Superbowl is a massive event back home and we’ve had some brilliant evenings in our restaurant down the years, with both diehard fans and customers who have never watched an American Football game in their lives.

“Although my local team back home is the New England Patriots, I followed the Pittsburgh Steelers, but when it comes to the Superbowl it doesn’t really matter who you support because everyone gets together with their families or in their local bar to watch it.

“That’s what we’re trying to recreate here and with things being not so great for Rams of Derby County at the moment, we’re hoping that Derby fans will come along to support the Los Angeles Rams and see what the game is all about.”

Annie’s has also created a special one-day-only Superbowl burger, which is available in vegan, veggie and meaty, to mark the occasion and to book a table visit www.anniesburgershack.com
