CARING Marnie Wadlow has been interviewed on live TV with a host of celebrities after announcing that she wants to raise enough money to provide 30 families with Christmas dinners.
Marnie, 10, from Chellaston, was invited to appear on Steph’s Packed Lunch on Channel 4 to talk about her Christmas campaign to help families who may be facing financial hardship this winter.
She appeared on the show with her mum Chrissa and, as well as chatting to host Steph McGovern she also met entertainer Denise van Outen, former politician Michael Portillo and singer and presenter Aled Jones.
Marnie told viewers how she provided festive dinners for five households last year and this year the Chellaston Junior School pupil is aiming to go bigger and better by raising £3,000 to pay for 30 roast turkey dinners with all the trimmings, plus pudding and Prosecco.

Marnie said: “I just want to spread happiness around because I really enjoy helping people. I did it last year and managed to get five meals together for people – we got them turkey, pigs in blankets, sprouts, carrots and Prosecco.
“It was very emotional delivering them and I could hear one mum crying because she couldn’t believe it. I know some people might be struggling this year because of the Covid pandemic so it would be lovely to help even more people.
“I loved going on the television and everyone was really nice. At the end of the interview, I said to my Mum that I wanted to do it again! I had a photograph with Steph and Denise van Outen said ‘hello’ – it was loads of fun.”

Marnie’s mum Chrissa runs the award-winning organisation Sunshine Support, which helps support families with children who have special educational needs.
It was her mum’s work that led Marnie to launch her campaign; eligible families must have children with special educational needs.
Chrissa said: “Because of my job people keep saying that Marnie is a chip off the old block, but I’m 40 and she’s just 10 – I wasn’t like this when I was 10!
“We are so proud of her, and it was a wonderful treat to go on the television. She was a bit overwhelmed at the start of the interview, but then Steph soon made her feel at home and before I knew it Marnie was chatting away quite happily.

“Everyone made a fuss of her and the television company made a donation to Marnie’s appeal – we still have some way to go to raise enough money for 30 families, so any other contributions will be gratefully received.”
The “Marnie Delivers Christmas” campaign includes a nomination form which is open until December 15.
Nominated families must live within the Derby City or South Derbyshire council tax area and there must be someone in the household with special educational needs. Successful families will be chosen at random from all those meeting the criteria on December 17.
