Manchester COSMO invites emergency services workers for a free meal to celebrate reopening

12/11/2021

A MANCHESTER all-you-can-eat restaurant is celebrating reopening for the first time since the pandemic by inviting emergency services and armed forces staff to dine for free.

COSMO banqueting restaurant, in Deansgate, is throwing open its doors on November 11th and is inviting holders of a Blue Light card to join them the night before to thank them for their extraordinary efforts during the difficult months of the pandemic.

The gesture underlines COSMO’s commitment to the emergency services – during lockdown staff kept busy in the kitchen preparing 50 free hot meals a day for doctors and nurses in the critical care departments at Salford Royal.

Cosmo spokesman Kan Koo said: “During the height of the pandemic, we couldn’t sit back and do nothing when so many key workers were working around the clock to save lives, so we felt it only right and proper to do our bit to support the NHS.

“As the restaurant returns to its normal operation, we thought we would say one final thank you to those people who worked tirelessly to keep the people of Manchester safe and well.

“Cosmo has always offered a discount to Blue Light card holders, and we will continue to do so. We just hope this gives our wonderful emergency services staff a little morale boost to know that as normality returns to our lives they are not forgotten and the sacrifice they made for us will always have a place in our hearts.

“We hope it gives staff a little morale boost to know that we are still thinking of them and that a hot hearty meal will give them the energy to face their shifts with renewed vigour.”

Cosmo is a family restaurant which opened in the city in 2017, following a £1m refurbishment of the three-storey building on Deansgate.

Diners can choose from a mammoth 55 metres of global cuisine including Chinese, Italian, Indian, Brazilian and Malaysian dishes which are cooked in front of them at eight live cooking stations.

The 25,000 sq ft restaurant, which seats 350 diners, has won national awards for its interior which was designed by Robert Angell, who has previously created restaurants for The Savoy, Gordon Ramsay and Marcus Waring.

Mr Koo added: “We are thrilled to be welcoming Mancunians back to COSMO after an enforced break during the pandemic. Of course, the safety of our diners and staff was of the utmost importance, but now we are confident that the time is right to reopen.

“We have made some adjustments to our operation to ensure safety, but customers can still help themselves to our food and they can expect to see all their favourite dishes and desserts.

“We would just advise diners to book in advance. With Christmas parties on the horizon, we are expecting to be very busy in the coming weeks and months.”
