A doughnut lover from Derbyshire has won himself a lifetime’s supply of sweet treats after getting a tattoo paying homage to his favourite bakery.
Tony Day, from Etwall, has had his bicep inked with the logo and ice cream van of popular Derby-based bakery Project D, in the brand’s signature pink colour.
The Project D team were so impressed by Tony’s fan gesture they have given him free doughnuts for life!
The germ of the idea started in 2018 when Tony was enjoying his stag weekend in Amsterdam in the company of Project D’s founders: Max Poynton, Jacob Watts and Matthew Bond.
Discovering they were planning to open a bakery when they returned to Derby, Tony promised he would one day get a tattoo depicting their business, in return for a lifetime’s supply of free doughnuts.

Sure enough, Tony has now been adorned with a fan tattoo of Project D, courtesy of Sanctuary Ink Tattoos in Derby.
He now gets free doughnuts whenever he visits any of Project D’s pop-up shops – for life!
Tony says he is proud to bits of his friends and the huge success they have made of Project D, which is now expanding all over the country with its delicious doughnuts and their eye-catching designs.
“Obviously, I can see now that they have smashed it and I’m reaping the benefits!” he said. “I’m really proud of them, and so happy to be affiliated with them.”
Tony is a keen rugby player and member of Melbourne Rugby Club in Derbyshire, which has been sponsored by Project D.
His favourite Project D collection is the ‘Caramel Cartel’ box and he sees the doughnuts as a vital part of his pre-season rugby training!
Project D co-founder Max Poynton said: “Getting a tattoo of Project D’s ice cream van and our logo is the ultimate fan gesture and so we are only too delighted to reward Tony with free doughnuts for life!
“We hope he enjoys them year after year – one thing’s for sure, he hasn’t got bored of them yet!”
