PUPILS at a Derby special school took part in Pudsey-themed learning events, completed mood boosting activities in class and took part in a fun PE session with Body Coach Joe Wicks to celebrate the BBC’s annual Children in Need fundraiser.
St Giles School had to delay their celebrations last year after flooding forced the closure of city’s only special primary school.
But this year they were able to join in with Joe Wicks’ themed PE session, which was live streamed to schools across the UK, with pupils also wearing blue to mark UK-wide, anti-bullying campaign, ‘Wear Blue For Wellbeing’.
Becky Green, Lead Teacher at St Giles; part of the Spencer Academy Trust of schools, said: “Our children always look forward to Children in Need and the school goes to a lot of effort to make it a success.

“It has been a challenging year and I cannot praise the pupils at St Giles and their parents and carers for how they have adapted to this new ‘norm’ we find ourselves in.
“They enjoyed wriggling and giggling to Joe Wicks’ PE session this morning, in their class bubbles, and we’re hoping that the event has raised a lot of money for a great charity.”

BBC Children in Need provide grants to projects in the UK which focus on children and young people who are disadvantaged. The first-ever children’s BBC radio appeal took place on Christmas Day, 1927 but the first televised show didn’t take place until 1955.
BBC Children in Need appeal night happens every November, although activities take place nationally throughout the year.
