Derby Mum Becky Brown – dubbed the ‘Mrs Hinch of Food’ – shares tips on shopping efficiently during Coronavirus pandemic and life hacks as new business goes from strength to strength

11/11/2020

A DERBY mum is on a mission to educate others on how they can shop more smartly during the coronavirus lockdown after saving hundreds of pounds at the supermarket herself.

Dubbed the ‘Mrs Hinch of Food’ – after the cleaning influencer who took social media by storm and garnered millions of followers in just one year – 41-year-old Becky Brown wants to use her own experiences with food to help others.

Becky, whose lockdown business simplicib was set up in September, believes we should resist the urge to panic buy at the supermarket during the latest national lockdown and that delicious, healthy meals can be made with just a few ingredients, saving both time and money.

She has also been sharing a few tips with her social media followers, such as how to stop food stains appearing on Tuppaware boxes and how to preserve the life of fresh spinach.

“I want to help people who may be stuck in a food rut to make meals that they enjoy,” said Becky, who is mum to sixteen-year-old Will James.

“I’m not a cook; I’m just a mum who loves home cooking and I want to help others whatever their situation.

“My food journey began when I left home and had to learn to cook for myself; you then progress into cooking meals with your partner, which is very different, and then if you have children, your attitude and meal times change once more.

“I remember pureeing and mashing sweet potato and freezing the pulp in ice-cube trays for Will James when he was a baby. I still shudder at the thought!

“I’m on a mission to help others, to change their mindset when it comes to food. The more colourful, the better.

“You don’t have to cook fancy or complicated masterpieces, you can make something wonderful using just a few simple ingredients and, if you plan your trip to the supermarket in advance – no panic-buying during the latest lockdown – you can save both time and money without compromise.”

Becky Brown has plans for a cooking retreat where she will educate people on food and nutrition in 2021

Becky has created easy, delicious dishes which she has shared with her growing Instagram followers including prawn and pea curry, healthy beef chow mein, fresh pizza and homemade quesadillas stuffed with spicy chicken, marinaded veg and cheese.

She has special guests lined up to cook-along with her live on her social media channels and her diary is already full of people wanting a one-on-one food clinic with her in the new year.

There are even plans, once lockdown restricted are lifted, to host Cooking Retreats in the Derbyshire countryside.

“I’ve had so many people get in touch, asking for a bit of inspiration as to what to feed their family that is easy and cheap to make,” said Becky, whose job working in process improvement for packaging manufacturer Essentra sees her identify, analyse and improve existing business processes to improve standards.

“I want to work with people to create dishes which suit their lifestyles.

“I would often make a jacket potato or ommlette for tea after I came home from work but I want to help others to get out of that food rut; this time of the year, we have lots of delicious root vegetables available in supermarkets, so why not put the slow cooker on before you leave the house so that you have a delicious and nutritious meal ready for you when you get home.

“My mission is to make cooking fun again and right now, we all need a bit of fun in our lives.”
