Emily joins the team at Derby’s Penguin PR as Covid-19 recovery economy fuels expansion

06/11/2020

Derby public relations agency Penguin PR has appointed a new PR account executive to help it serve a host of new clients whose businesses are thriving despite the ongoing coronavirus.

Emily Fish has joined the team at the Ashbourne Road-based agency after impressing staff during a successful period of work experience earlier this year.

Penguin PR represents a wide range of companies, charities and schools across the Midlands, but its client list has been boosted by the addition of companies which have either set up during the Covid-19 pandemic or whose goods and services are proving to be in great demand.

Emily’s role will be to work closely with some of these clients, which include fast-growing luxury bakers Project D, personalised letterbox gift company Colleague Box, Ilkeston textile manufacturer Baltex and Denby-based remote working IT specialists Axess Systems.

She is currently in the third year of a BA degree in magazine journalism at the University of Derby and will juggle her studies alongside working at Penguin PR, where she will put her writing flair and eye for a story to good use.

Penguin PR director Simon Burch, who set up the company 10 years ago with fellow former journalist Sarah Newton, said that despite the uncertainties of 2020, the latter half of the year has been unprecedented in terms of picking up new business, meaning that there is plenty of work for Emily to do.

He said: “These are undoubtedly challenging times for many companies, yet at the same time there are a host of exciting new up and coming local brands who are thriving amid the recovery economy and we are thoroughly enjoying representing them.

“Despite our initial fears at the start of lockdown we have been incredibly busy lining up regular TV and radio appearances for our clients, as well as more national coverage than ever before.

“Both Sarah and I started our journalism careers after a period of work experience so we’re loving the sense of déjà vu, but Emily is here on merit because of the quality of her writing and her creativity.

“The fact that Emily is still learning at the University of Derby is a huge bonus to us, because she is able to share the expertise that she herself is benefitting from, which can only be good for Penguin PR and our growing list of clients.”
