There was much to celebrate at The Bemrose School this morning as pupils collected a set of results which were even better than they were expecting.
Unlike many schools across the city, the Uttoxeter New Road school was open from 8am to allow students to collect their results in person and access support for their next steps.
Among the first students through the door was Rastislav Durasko who is the school’s best performing Roma Slovak pupil of all time.
He said: “I am really pleased with my results and especially glad to have passed history and English. It means I can go to college now and study business administration, so I am very happy.”
Shannon Clarke (left) and Chloe Dawson are planning to continue their education after picking up their GCSE results from The Bemrose School.
Yassan Ahmad, who is originally from Sudan, picked up two grade 7s, three grade 6s and two grade 5s despite only starting at the school in year nine.
His results mean he is hoping to secure a sixth form place to study A-Levels in maths, computer science and English literature.
He said: “I am feeling very proud today and I have actually got slightly better grades than I was expecting. I hope to become a software engineer, so hopefully this will still be possible.”
Chloe Dawson is looking forward to continuing her education at The Bemrose School after getting the grades she needs to study for A-Levels in forensics and criminology and English language.
She said: “I passed everything , bar one subject, and even got an 8 in art which is better than I was expecting. I really want to go to university and become a forensic scientist, so I am pleased my results mean this is possible.”
Executive head teacher Neil Wilkinson said: “This is a day of celebration and we applaud the achievements of all our students at all ability levels, after what has been a challenging end to the school year and an unpredictable summer.
“The vast majority of pupils have been successful in securing their preferred pathway and I wish our students the very best with their next stages of life.
“This success would not be possible without the dedication and support from every member of staff at the school, and I would also like to thank them for the positive impacts they have had on our students.”
