Best-ever GCSE results for pupils at Murray Park Community School

20/08/2020

PUPILS at Murray Park Community School have achieved what is believed to be the best set of GCSE results in the school’s history.

Despite the many changes to the way GCSE results have been awarded over the years, the Mickleover school believes the 2020 outcomes are the best overall results they have ever recorded.

81% of students gained GCSE English grade 4+, an increase of 10% on last year and 67% of students gained GCSE maths grade 4+, an increase of 3%.

Combined strong passes in English and maths improved from 28.8% in 2019 to 37.1% this year. Improvements were made in every subject, making this an impressive year for Murray Park.

Overall progress currently sits at +0.27, a phenomenal improvement on last year when the school’s progress figure was -0.68.

There were many students who performed at an extremely high level: George Fowler gained a spectacular five grade 9s in biology, chemistry, geography, physics, statistics and four grade 8s in English lit and language, French and maths.

Tsvetina Doycheva picked up Grade 9s in biology, chemistry, English literature and language and French; grade 8s in art, maths, physics, while her digital media grade is to be confirmed.

Sarah Shakespeare gained Grade 9s in biology, English literature, geography and maths; grade 8s in chemistry, English language, history and physics; while her digital media qualification is still to be confirmed.

Head teacher Nicola Caley has praised the hard work of pupils and the professionalism of the school’s teachers for their efforts during a difficult year.

She said: “I am very proud of this year’s cohort, who have produced an unprecedented set of results, which are thoroughly deserved.

“Obviously the way GCSEs have been awarded this year has been well publicised, but at Murray Park we have enough data to have made a credible and accurate assessment of how pupils would have performed had they sat their exams.

“In the two years that I have been at Murray Park we have made enormous changes and I am delighted that the fruits of these labours are now being demonstrated in our results, showing that this evolution is having a really positive impact on the school.

“I would like to thank our high quality and hard-working staff for their tremendous efforts and all our students who have been so keen to learn.

“I know everyone at Murray Park wishes the Class of 2020 every success in their future endeavours and I’m delighted that these pupils now have the qualifications and skills to move on to the next stage of their education or employment.”
