Staff at BASIS PROMPT were kept busy receiving 20th anniversary wishes and scanning CPD points when they set up their stand at the PPC Live 2020 event in Harrogate.
The register is marking two decades of helping the industry uphold professionalism and raise standards, after it was set up as an independent body dedicated to encouraging technicians and managers to engage in regular training and education.
Its staff were out in force to mark the occasion at the show, which took place at the Yorkshire Event Centre on March 11, as well as ensuring that members received their points for attending the show and discussing its plans for the rest of the year.
They also hosted an informal question and answer session with Dr Matt Davies, head of Killgerm’s Technical Department, to help publicise its involvement in the company’s two-day Principles of Insect Control Course.
BASIS PROMPT is the awarding exam body for the course and members who pass the exam will receive 20 CPD points, while non-members will automatically be given Associate Rodent Specific Membership of the BASIS PROMPT scheme.
Stephen Jacob, Chief Executive Officer of BASIS PROMPT, said: “A lot has certainly changed in the UK since last week’s show, so we are extremely relieved and grateful that PPC Live 2020 was able to go ahead.
“It was a hugely successful event from our point of view. We spoke to a great many people about how our register has grown over the past 20 years and explained more about the developments we are looking to put in place over the coming year.
“We logged 166 members who received the maximum six CPD points on offer by attending the show itself, as well as visiting the seminars, which was extremely encouraging.”
BASIS PROMPT also raffled off a special 20th anniversary furry rat mascot, which was won by Ben Ross who works for Fletcher Pest Control, based in Thirsk, North Yorkshire.

Notes For Editors
Pests that endanger our health, contaminate our food and environment and damage our property must be controlled. However, it is essential that their control is carried out responsibly by people who are properly trained and competent.
The BASIS PROMPT Pest Controllers register is an industry initiative which provides independent proof that a pest controller has received proper professional training and has continued to update their expertise through Continuing Professional Development (CPD). As registration has to be renewed each year, members of the register will always be aware of the most up-to-date techniques, products and legal obligations.
Support for the BASIS PROMPT scheme has come from the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH), the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS), the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH), the British Pest Control Association (BPCA), the National Pest Technicians Association (NPTA), the UK Pest Controllers Organisation (UKPCO) and the Sector Skills Council.
