Lubrizol in Derbyshire helps young dancers at JL Dance and Performing Arts Academy look the part with donation towards Team England kit

26/02/2020

YOUNGSTERS from a Ripley dance school are set to take on some of the best talent from around the world in an international competition in Rome – thanks to support from a Derbyshire company.

Ten pupils from JL Dance and Performing Arts Academy will represent Team England at the Dance World Cup in June.

Rosie Minns, Grace-Violet Tyler, Mae Warren, Ava Warren, Olivia Sewell, George Coxon, Maisie Woodall, Layla Woodall, Miley Strickland and Emily Hallott will compete against dancers from 47 other countries at Cinecitta World; a movie-based theme park in the Italian capital.

Dancers from JL Dance & Performing Arts Academy have been given a £250 sponsorship by Derbyshire-based Lubrizol ahead of their trip to the Dance World Cup in Rome.

The dance club are aiming to raise £3,000, which will go towards kit, dance fees, costumes and travel expenses. But, thanks to a £250 donation from Derbyshire-based Lubrizol, they are a little closer to realising their target.

Principal Joanne Bott said: “We are extremely thrilled with the kind donation from Lubrizol. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our dancers and I’m proud of every single one of my students. They have all worked so hard to earn their place in the squad.”

The dancers had to submit a video audition to a panel representing Team England and spent a nerve-wracking couple of weeks waiting for their reply.

“There will be 6,000 competitors in the World Cup and so to have 10 students from JL Dance & Performing Arts Academy there is quite an achievement,” added Ms Bott.

“They’re all great friends, work hard and there is a fantastic spirit within the group so I’m excited to see what they can achieve in Rome.”

Whilst in Italy, the youngsters will get the chance to take part in various styles of dance workshops and masterclasses led by professionals who, in the past, have included movie star Adam Garcia.

Lubrizol spokesperson, Karen Clegg, said: “Our data analyst, Daniel Tyler, approached our charity and community committee as his daughter, Grace-Violet, is one of the youngsters who will be going to Rome.

“Lubrizol has a reputation for helping local causes and, during 2019, we distributed nearly £11,000 to schools, charities, sporting clubs and community groups, proving that although Hazelwood is a small site, it has a big heart.

“We are always delighted to support local good causes and we look forward to seeing how the youngsters from JL Dance & Performing Arts Academy do in Rome.”
