Lubrizol staff in Derbyshire show their support for good causes across the region

21/02/2020

Staff at a Derbyshire company have shown their support for several good causes in the region.

Colleagues at Lubrizol, in Hazelwood, donated five bin bags of children’s winter clothes and five bags of toys and games to TOGS, a children’s clothing bank based in Osmaston Road and run by St Peter’s in the City.

The charity, which supports needy families, also received a donation of £500 from Lubrizol’s charitable committee, which it will use to buy items which are often needed, but rarely donated.

Anthea Peters, from TOGS, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Lubrizol for their generosity. Christmas is a really difficult time for many families and without donations of this kind we would struggle to help.

“The financial donation will all be ploughed back into the charity. Sometimes we use money like this for items which families need – like white polo shirts for school uniform or other items which we are often asked for but sometimes don’t have.”

Lubrizol has also helped bring 120 city school children together to help raise much-needed funds for youngsters with limited lives.

Anthea Peters, from TOGS, thanked Lubrizol for their donation.

The organisation donated £500 to help stage the annual Rainbows Carol Concert in Derby Cathedral which raises much needed funds for Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People, based in Loughborough.

The team helps relieve symptoms, improve quality of life, support parents and siblings through their bereavements and care for children until the end.

The money was used to provide coaches to transport the youngsters from four Derby primary schools singing at the festive fundraising event.

Paula North, Community Engagement Manager at Rainbows, said: “On behalf of everyone at Rainbows, I would like to thank Lubrizol for its very kind donation.

“Each year it costs around £6 million to run Rainbows and without the support of companies like Lubrizol, we wouldn’t be able to open our doors and provide care to the children, young people and their families who need us so much.”

Colleagues at the company also raised £824 for Macmillan Cancer Support by staging departmental coffee mornings and the icing on the cake was an additional donation of £500 from the company.

Karen Clegg, Lubrizol’s spokeswoman, said: “Lubrizol staff nominate a chosen charity every two years and we dedicate all our efforts to raising money for that cause.

“At the moment we are fundraising for the British Heart Foundation, but we still want to help the local community and we are very happy to have helped a number of good causes as the festive season approaches.

“Our colleagues never fail to step up to the plate when we ask them to support by donating clothes or baking cakes and I hope we have made a difference to some families in Derbyshire this Christmas.”
