Michele has been with BASIS for 27 years and joined the industry-backed BASIS PROMPT scheme when it launched in 2000. Over the years, new registers and schemes have been introduced and Michele now manages all of these.

One of her main roles includes awarded CPD points to all the events. Michele also deals with all aspects of accounting for the business.

“My job here at BASIS PROMPT is member relations; making sure that all of our 5,000-plus members are happy,” said Michele, who has previously worked in agriculture.

“It’s my job to allocate CPD points for various courses which are available to our members. Members can get also CPD points from completing various quizzes in trade magazines, by attending events – including the NPTA On The Road event – or via online learning.

“An increasing number of our members are choosing to participate in Toolbox Talks; an informal gathering in the workplace. As long as it lasts for at least one hour and is attended by no more than 15 people, then this can be a great way to gather up to 20 CPD points for full PROMPT members.

“More of our members are choosing to learn online and the relaunch of the BASIS PROMPT app later this year will make it even easier for members to access online learning.”

Michele, whose dad used to be a gamekeeper, knew little about pest control when she joined the BASIS PROMPT register. But she has embraced the industry and the people involved.

“Who knew that there were so many ways of eradicating bed bugs,” laughed Michele, whose favourite part of the job is meeting members at events.

“There have been so many changes – all for the better – especially regarding admin. We used to track training on sheets of A3 paper with members filling them in themselves and me checking them; they’re all done digitally now.

“Our PROMPT ID cards used to be created with a typewriter and laminator; you can now download your card to your mobile phone and have it scanned at events.

“I’ve learned so much during the last 20 years and continue to learn.

“In recent years, particularly over the last 18 months, our members have shown an increased awareness of the environment. As a result, our cards are now biodegradable.”
