PUPILS and staff at a city special school are celebrating after their catering team received a five-star hygiene rating from Derby City Council.
St Giles School, in Hampshire Road, Derby, were given the maximum rating following an inspection by the council’s food hygiene and safety team. It is the city special school’s second successive five-star rating since their kitchen opened in January 2016.
All businesses who operate within Derby City and serve food are subject to safety inspections in accordance with the council’s inspection programme, to ensure that they are complying with the law.

Clive Lawrence, executive head teacher at St Giles – part of the Spencer Academies Trust of schools – said: “We are absolutely thrilled with a second successive five-star hygiene rating for our kitchen staff.
“Prior to opening in 2016, we had all of our food cooked and brought in from another school kitchen. Having our own kitchen on site means that the dietary requirements of all the children who attend St Giles School can be met.

“Sarah and Kaneez, who run the kitchen, do a fantastic job. They work extremely hard and continue to provide exceptionally high standards in our school kitchen.
“They always go above and beyond for the pupils and staff here at St Giles to produce delicious, nutritious food in a fully compliant kitchen.”
