Derbyshire’s popular Christmas at Chatsworth installs county firm’s temporary security barriers

06/12/2019

One of the country’s best-loved stately homes is helping to ensure a safe day out for families attending its hugely popular Christmas celebration after it took delivery of Derbyshire firm Securiscape’s high-tech street security barriers to help control the traffic.

Chatsworth has become a favourite pre-Christmas day out for thousands of families who flock to the house every weekend for its Christmas at Chatsworth event during November and December.

The event has become famous for the magical decorations and a different theme each year, with 2019 being “In a land far, far away…”, and the popular Christmas Market, which attracts thousands of shoppers looking to pick up gifts for their loved ones.

However, the influx of visitors to Chatsworth means that the estate managers have a big job on their hands to ensure that everyone can arrive and leave safely, not to mention parking the thousands of cars visitors use to drive to the venue from across the UK.

As a result, this year Chatsworth has rented five of Securiscape’s high-tech SecuriPod barriers, which have been arranged so that staff can regulate the speed and movement of vehicles coming and going throughout the day.

Designed as an impregnable barrier against hostile vehicles – individually, or when placed closely together in a row, they can stop a truck weighing to 7.5 tonnes – the SecuriPods are perfectly flexible enough to be pressed into use as traffic-calming measures.

This is because they rely on their clever design, rather than weight, to ensure they do not move when they come into contact with a vehicle, meaning they can be installed swiftly and removed just as easily if an emergency vehicle needed to gain access.

They are also ideal for public events, because their tough polypropylene outer casing can be supplied in a range of colours or personalised with branding to help set the scene.

Mark Stone, managing director of Securiscape, said: “We’re a Derbyshire company ourselves and so we’re fully aware of how popular the Christmas at Chatsworth event is and the vast numbers of people it attracts every weekend.

“Inevitably, the interest in the event means that the estate’s main car park is extremely busy, so we are delighted that Chatsworth has invested in our SecuriPod HVM barriers in order to create traffic-calming measures it needs to ensure the flow of cars moves safely.”

Graham Kelsey, Security Supervisor at Chatsworth, said: “Chatsworth can be a very busy place at Christmas and ensuring a smooth traffic flow to give our visitors the best possible experience is very important.

“We were pleased to be able to use a local product that provides a suitable temporary method for us to guide cars and vehicles as part of an overall traffic management strategy, helping to reduce congestion and improve safety.”
