KIND-HEARTED staff and students from a South Yorkshire school will split the proceeds they raise from their annual Children in Need fundraising event between the charity and flood-hit Kilnhurst Primary School.
Swinton Academy welcomed youngsters from Kilnhurst Primary, which was badly damaged recently after the River Don burst its banks, into their academy so that they could join in the fun on Children in Need day.
All 200-plus children have been unable to return to their school and are currently split between Fitzwilliam Primary and Brookfield Junior Academy, which, like Swinton, is part of the ACET Trust of schools.
A bake sale was held in the dinner hall at Swinton Academy, students sold Pudsey Bear badges and there was a ‘Beat the Teacher’ football penalty shoot-out.

Principal Rebecca Hibberd said: “Our fundraising has been a real team effort and is for two fantastic causes.
“It has been a delight welcoming youngsters from Kilnhurst to Swinton Academy. The devastation which the flooding caused in the area has affected the whole community and so we’re happy to be helping out.
“We must give a huge thanks to Brookfield Junior Academy, whose pupils joined us for the fundraising event. They have accommodated three classes from Kilnhurst – 73 children in total. All those youngsters have made new friends, so there has been some good news.”
Jessica Jennings is a member of the Parent, Teacher Association at Kilnhurst. She said: “The water started coming onto the school grounds on the Thursday night (November 7) and, by the following day, most of the school was under water.
“It’s so upsetting. This is the second time that this has happened; it happened to us in 2007, but we have been overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of the whole community and would like to thank Swinton Academy for this kind gesture.”
