Date confirmed for 140th Derbyshire County Show as organisers prepare to make 2020 their biggest and best one yet

12/11/2019

A DATE has been confirmed for one of the county’s best-loved events, which will celebrate its 140th anniversary in 2020.

A date has been confirmed for the 2020 Derbyshire County Show at Elvaston showground

The Derbyshire County Show will return to the Elvaston Showground next year on Sunday, June 28 and plans are well underway to make it the most successful one yet.

More than 11,000 people attended the show this year with visitors enjoying the chance to get up close and personal with the hundreds of animals at the show.

There was an action-packed performance from Big Pete Monster Trucks in the main arena plus fairground rides, the ever-popular vintage cars display and an array of delicious delicacies from around the UK.

Organisers remain tight-lipped over exactly who and what will be the star attractions for the 2020 show but thrill-seekers can expect to be entertained by Stuntworld International – a team of top motorcyclists who will wow the crowd with gravity-defying ramp jumps and wheelies – and the Welsh Axemen.

The Welsh Axemen will use axes and saws to demonstrate original lumberjack skills alongside modern techniques and equipment in the main arena.

Derby County mascot Rammie – and his friends from the Derby County Community Trust – have also been confirmed for 2020.

“We were delighted to be able to return to our spiritual home of Elvaston Showground for 2019 and we received glowing feedback from our visitors,” said Edward Hicklin, chairman of the Derbyshire Agricultural and Horticultural Society – organisers of the Derbyshire County Show.

“The county show has a very grand history stretching back to 1860 and we have a proud reputation to uphold; staging an event which has something for every member of the family and celebrates all that is good about the countryside on our doorstep.

“The emphasis has changed over the years from showcasing predominantly agricultural activities and equipment to organising a more all-round day-out for everyone and we believe that we have the perfect mix at the Derbyshire County Show.

“We are excited about our 140th anniversary in 2020 and look forward to welcoming Stuntworld International, the Welsh Axemen and Derby County mascot Rammie and the Derby County Community Trust to the Show. We’re sure that all will be hugely popular with visitors to the Show.”

Meanwhile, organisers are currently looking for a livestock secretary to run that section of the show successfully.

Applicants must be able to work well under pressure, especially in the run-up to the Show. The ability to use a computer is essential and knowledge of livestock and showing would be an asset.

Applications should be made to Anne James by emailing info@derbyshirecountyshow.org.uk
