Derby special school St Giles raises more than £200 for Macmillan after World’s Biggest Coffee Morning

31/10/2019

A DERBY special school has raised more than £200 for a national cancer charity by holding a cake sale.

St Giles School, in Hampshire Road, did their bit for Macmillan by hosting a coffee afternoon and cake sale as part of the annual fundraising event which is organised by the charity.

Staff at St Giles served up tasty treats – including home-made Rice Krispie cakes, cupcakes and biscuits – to parents and pupils in return for a donation to Macmillan. They raised £225 altogether.

For executive head teacher Clive Lawrence, this year was particularly poignant; he lost his mum in April following a lengthy battle with cancer.

He said: “We all know someone who has lost a loved one to this terrible disease and that is why we wanted to be a part of the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning which Macmillan organise.

“We were overwhelmed with donations of cakes and biscuits and a fantastic amount has been raised for Macmillan cancer support, whose cause is very close to my heart.”

Macmillan support people who need to live their lives as fully as they can from the moment of diagnosis. Each individual received the support which is best for them.

So far, the Macmillan Coffee Morning has raised £2,831.950 nationally.
