02/08/2019

PUPILS from a Rotherham school wowed with a variety show of song and dance performances in front of a packed audience at Aston Academy.

The annual showcase saw students from the three secondary academies which form part of the ACET Trust – Aston Academy, Swinton Academy and Shirebrook Academy – take to the stage to perform dance routines and musical numbers in front of proud parents, family members and staff.

Highlights included a solo from saxophonist Kirsty Wilkes, a pupil at Shirebrook Academy, a dazzling dance display from Aston Academy quartet Evie Barnes, Brooke Eades, Isobel Macbeth-Singer and Emily Jeffery and a spine-tingling duet from Swinton Academy pair Carmen Walker and Kadie Woodall.

Dominic Curran, principal at Aston Academy, in Aughton Road, said: “All of our students have worked very hard on their music and dance numbers throughout the year.

“We were delighted to have such an array of talent on display here at Aston Academy and we’re already looking forward to next year’s performance.”

Music is one of the many extra-curricular activities on offer at Aston Academy. Mr Curran says that the school has an excellent reputation for achieving success in these extra-curricular activities.

He said: “We are fully committed to offering all of our students a flexible curriculum which is tailored to meet their individual needs, as well as a broad range of extra-curricular opportunities for students to excel in sport and the creative arts.

“Aston has an excellent reputation for student achievement in dance and music and for success within the sporting arena. This academic year has been one of our most fulfilling to date and we can’t wait to go one better next year.”
