A DERBY IT firm is inviting schools and education providers along to a free event in the city, where it will demonstrate how technology and software can make teaching more fun.
L.E.A.D. IT Services, which is based in Victoria Street, Derby, will welcome leading suppliers along to Derby Conference Centre on Friday, December 3 where a range of different technologies that can support the IT curriculum in schools – as well as use in cross-curricular teaching – will be on display.
There will be demonstrations of communication software, classroom management systems, GDPR-compliant visitor systems, interactive whiteboards, tablets and laptops that are specifically designed for schools.
Lee Jepson, director of L.E.A.D. IT Services, says that the advances in tech, particularly in education, means that there is kit and software available for schools which can help children grow in confidence and give them the vital social skills.
Sophie Jepson is organising an educational tech fayre at Derby Conference Centre on December 3.
“The coronavirus pandemic saw many schools – both primary and secondary – move to online learning with Microsoft Teams and the Government’s Oak National Academy enabling learning to continue during the national lockdowns we have had,” he said.
“This has ultimately led to a trend of extended learning and technology which can make new-age learning and time in the classroom more interesting and interactive.
“There has been a huge increase in demands for interactive white boards within the schools we work with and teachers have been asking if we can help provide a ‘how to’ guide for them, too.
“The tech fayre – called the M.E.E.T. Technology Event – will be a great opportunity for headteachers and senior leaders at schools in Derby to come together and ask those questions, whilst also getting ‘hands-on’ with technology which can make their lives a lot easier!”
Equipment on display will include Promethean Digital Boards, which are internet-ready and come preloaded with teaching tools, and software created by Splashtop; a company based in Silicon Valley, in America, which specialises in solutions for remote and in-classroom learning.
Global IT firm Dell will have a stand at the show, as will ParentPay, who many schools in the UK use as a communication and dinner money software supplier.
Sophie Jepson, who is organising the event, said: “Schools are an integral part of the community where everyone has an important part to play in supporting and encouraging each other.
“The coronavirus pandemic has made us realise just how important community is – and how technology can play a key role in bringing us together.
“There are so many fantastic pieces of tech and specialised software which can make the lives of teachers – and parents – easier, whilst enriching the lives and education experiences of children.
“Usually, these tech fayres are held in London but we thought that it would be great to have one in Derby, where we’re based, as it’s central and has so many fantastic schools.”
The L.E.A.D. IT Services Tech Fayre will take place at Derby Conference Centre on London Road, Derby on December 3 from 9.30am – 3.00pm. To book a place, click on the link: https://forms.office.com/r/vK35GWtTx1
