Alphageek Digital enjoys a boom as Black Friday breaks all records

08/12/2022

This year’s Black Friday phenomenon more than lived up to the hype in the East Midlands by bringing online retailers a huge return on their investments, according to a Derby digital marketing agency.

Alphageek Digital, which mounted around £30,000 worth of campaigns on behalf of its clients, saw an average of over 20-times return on the money spent during the day and over the following weekend.

Some experts had feared that the cost-of-living crisis would cool interest in Black Friday, which has become the biggest retail day of the year, by causing shoppers to rein in their spending.

However, such fears proved to be unfounded, with big name retailers including Amazon making record sales across the weekend, especially in the US, where shoppers spent a record $9.12bn on Black Friday; with the most sought-after items including gaming consoles, toys and drones.

Although closer to home at Alphageek the figures aren’t quite the same scale as Amazon’, their sales for the weekend achieved on behalf of clients totalled over £600,000 from the £30,000 spend, meaning that for every £1 invested online, retailers achieved over £20 worth of sales on average across all campaigns.

Alex Mills, a director at the firm, based in Victoria Street, Derby, said: “Black Friday was an incredible weekend for both us and our ecommerce clients, who did very well simply by strategically planning ahead and making the most of a great opportunity.

“While we invested more money on behalf of our clients this year compared to last, the return on investment was better still, which supports the general feeling that the Black Friday weekend was more successful than ever before.

“Most of the sales came through companies offering attractive discounts on their most popular products and it really paid off for them. All businesses differ and many of our clients are still running campaigns between now and new year, however Black Friday is definitely the time to push if you’re an online / ecommerce focused business.”

The award-winning firm, which is run by young entrepreneurs Art Lindop, Kieran Flynn and Alex Mills, had been preparing Black Friday campaigns for its clients, which include Casio’s G-SHOCK watches, high-tech sportswear firm HUUB and local doughnut bakers Project D among others, for weeks.

Originally set up in 2019, the company offers a wide range of digital marketing services including social media advertising, pay-per-click / paid social advertising, web design & development and content creation, for companies across a range of industries and across four continents.

Earlier this year it picked up two awards in the Breakthrough and Entrepreneur of the Year categories of the East Midlands Chamber Generation Next 2022 awards, which are open to individuals who are aged under 35, followed by start-up of the year in East Midlands Masters awards 2022.
