A gritty three-part crime-drama co-created by a former Derbyshire police chief is set to air on BBC One next month.
Granite Harbour is a new police drama that follows Lance Corporal David Lindo as he arrives in Aberdeen as a new Police Scotland recruit, having just completed his final tour with the Royal Military Police.
He and his mentor, DCI Lara Bartlett are quickly thrown into the deep end as they investigate the murder of a well-known oil tycoon.
Starring Romario Simpson, who has previously starred in such shows as the BBC’s hit series Noughts + Crosses and played a role in Disney’s new Star Wars series Andor, and Hannah Donaldson the drama is based on a story developed by Derby man Kul Mahay.
Kul, who spent more than 30 years working for Derbyshire Constabulary before setting up a business specialising in leadership and emotional intelligence, is looking forward to seeing Granite Harbour on TV.
Kul Mahay
He said: “I am very excited to see Granite Harbour on national television. It is based on a story that I developed with my friend Adriel Leff and we simply couldn’t believe it when the BBC expressed an interest in commissioning it as a drama.
“If you are doubting yourself in any way right now or pondering on whether to pursue an idea, remember that you will only ever truly know if it will succeed if you at least try it.”
It’s not the first time that Kul has had a brush with fame. He recently appeared on Rob Rinder’s Interrogation Secrets; a ten-part series available on Apple TV and Prime that takes a unique look at the battles in the interview room between police and suspects in some of the most disturbing UK and UK criminal cases in recent years.
Kul said: “My role was to analyse the interview process using my experience as a police officer. I was also able to use my current work in emotional intelligence to ‘read’ how the both the police officers and suspects adjusted their language, body movements and emotions throughout the interview process.
“I found it fascinating to watch the different styles and approaches to investigating serious crimes.”
Granite Harbour begins on BBC1 in early December and all three episodes are boxsetted on the BBCiPlayer from Friday, December 2 at 7pm
