A CHRISTMAS card designed by a talented city school pupil has received praised from Prime Minister Boris Johnson who has promised to position it on the mantlepiece of 10 Downing Street.
Derby North MP Amanda Solloway invited children living in her constituency to get creative and design her official 2021 Christmas card.
The winning design was produced by nine-year-old Zunairah Shan who attends the primary phase of The Bemrose School, in Uttoxeter New Road.
Her festive creation, featuring Santa Claus, a roaring fire and a Christmas tree, will be sent to constituents, local businesses, fellow MPS and the Prime Minister.
Amanda said: “I would like to thank Zunairah for such a brilliant Christmas card – I absolutely love it and her attention to detail is amazing, even down to the snowy view outside the window, complete with Santa’s sleigh and a snowman.
“I was very proud to show the Prime Minister Zunairah’s card and he was impressed with her artistic skills – she’s very talented for just nine years old.
“We received many festive entries and it was extremely hard to pick an overall winner, so thank you to everyone who made the effort to spread some Christmas joy – it was greatly appreciated.”
Zunairah’s name and age has been printed on the reverse of the Christmas card, which also features a design produced by Amanda’s grandchildren.
Kate Beecroft, head teacher of Bemrose Primary, said: “We are so pleased that Zunairah’s design was chosen and we have been celebrating her achievement in school.
“It’s always an enormous treat for children to see their work up on the wall, or being admired by parents, so it’s very exciting to think that Zunairah’s art is being appreciated across Derby.
“And to think that the Prime Minister has received a card too is very exciting – we are very pleased for Zunairah.”
