Digital agency lines up for an old-fashioned sports day for Mental Health Awareness Week

23/05/2024

Staff at a Derby digital agency took each other on at a three-legged race and an egg-throwing competition when they held an old-school sports day as part of Mental Health Awareness Week.

The employees, at JDR Group, on Pride Park, spent the afternoon away from their desks at a nearby green open space as part of the company’s commitment to ensuring a healthy working environment for its staff.

The JDR Group Sports Day was held last Friday (May 17) to coincide with last week’s Mental Health Awareness Week’s theme of Movement, which recognises the health benefits of getting outside and getting active, whether it be sport, dancing or going on a long walk.

The event is part of a comprehensive line-up of activities organised by the firm throughout the year, including cake sales, dress-down days and team-bonding activities, while staff also have access to a wellbeing portal which offers medical and mental health advice, as well as discounts at multiple retailers, cafes and restaurants.

Leanne Mordue, a director at JDR Group, said: “Everyone had a really good time taking part in sports events like the three-legged race and the egg and spoon race, and it was really good to bring everyone together.

“We noticed how team members who are maybe a bit quieter came forward during the games and they got to know people who maybe don’t always get the opportunity to talk during the work day.

“It was a perfect event for Mental Health Awareness Week. We have quite a young workforce and ensuring that they are happy in their work is a priority for us. We have a responsibility to ensure that ours is a good place to work at and staff welfare is something we’re proactive about.”

JDR Group was founded in 2004 as a business coaching company and although it has evolved into a digital marketing firm it continues to coach and train owners of small and medium-sized businesses while offering a range of services including SEO, web design, social media and content marketing.

Last year it was named in the top one per cent of HubSpot’s global partner agencies which use the customer platform to bring their clients’ marketing, sales and customer service activity together within one integrated system.
