The man behind one of the most loved Christmas songs will be meeting his fans and signing his special edition supergin as the record marks 50 years of being at the top of festive playlist.
Wizzard frontman Roy Wood will be meeting fans and answering questions about his famous hit at Nelson’s Distillery and Gin School, in Uttoxeter, on Sunday, November 19, from 2pm to 4pm.
The event follows the release of his limited edition supergin, I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday, in tribute to the seasonal favourite as it celebrates five decades since it was first released.
Fans will be greeted with mulled gin on arrival – made with Roy’s supergin – and some other festive treats as well as hot and soft drinks.
The event will be hosted by Nelson’s founder Neil Harrison, who will also run tours of the distillery and talks throughout the event.
Visitors are being invited to register their interest in advance to meet music legend Roy, get their gin signed and even a selfie as he spends time meeting his adoring public.
Roy said: “I always enjoy getting to meet people and having a chat with them. It’s always a pleasure.
“I have the best fans. Some have been with me since the very beginning, and I will always be grateful to them for that.
“It will be great to spend the day at Nelson’s and talk about the gin as well. Neil also gives fantastic talks about the distillery and the tour is definitely worth making the most of.”
This is the third gin that Roy has created with the distillery, the first being Christmas Cheer and the second, Blackberry Way, after his hit song from his days with The Move.
This latest gin is a Christmas blend of only the finest botanical ingredients, including cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, mulled spices, orange, pink peppercorns and juniper.
I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday was first released in 1973 and famously features Roy singing accompanied by the vocals of a children’s school choir.
Neil said: “We always enjoy having Roy here at Nelson’s and it will be great to meet some of his fans as to this day he still has a huge following. We have spoken to them on social media and we know how dedicated they are.
“They have all sorts of interesting memorabilia and stories to tell so it will be a really fun day. It will be great to meet them in person and will be a good chance to get their limited-edition gin signed by Roy himself.”
